Later this month, the Student PIRGs will release their next investigative report about the college textbooks industry. This latest report examines the plethora of so-called low frills textbooks and finds that while mainstream publishers continue to fall woefully short in their lower cost offerings, there are other promising books that are both entirely free and just as educationally valuable as traditional, higher priced textbooks. The report also includes a host of new strategies to lower the cost of textbooks.
