Dear U.S. PIRG member,

Summer will be just around the bend by the time you get this letter. Here at U.S. PIRG, we’re making sure we have enough clipboards for the hundreds of college students and others who will spend their summer canvassing for U.S. PIRG.

They’ll be helping us find the people, the funds and the clout we need to be successful in our research, advocacy and organizing.

I canvassed for CALPIRG starting in 1986, and it was a powerful experience. One person talking to another person, and another person, and another person, until we engaged enough people in the type of grassroots action we needed to challenge powerful interests. Back then, it might have been standing up to Coca-Cola over recycling. Today, it means standing up to Dow Chemical on chemical security or Halliburton and Blackwater on accountability in federal contracting.

Washington, D.C., Canvass Director Rebecca Reynolds will be leading out our teams in the D.C.-area. She tells me she’s excited for a big summer with lots of new members, new action and, we hope, new victories.

She and I both know that we couldn’t do this important work if people like you didn’t take a few minutes to talk to our canvassers, sign our petitions, and give as generously as you can. Thank you for making it all possible.

Sincerely,

Andre Delattre
