EVENT BACKGROUND:

The American Citizens Summit will serve as a “virtual roundtable” where diverse thought leaders representing the full spectrum of political ideologies will come together to model a respectful dialogue in an effort to shift our political paradigm.

Andre Delattre and John Pudner will speak together on a panel discussing tax credit solutions that empower everyday voters over mega-donors in our elections. The proposed tax credit would reimburse small donors for contributions up to a certain amount, making political donations affordable for all Americans. Programs like the small donor tax credit also incentivize candidates to spend more time reaching out to everyday American rather than mega-donors by expanding the pool of voters engaged in the political process. Current campaign finance proposals in the House and Senate — the Government by the People Act (H.R. 20) and the Fair Elections Now Act (S. 1538) — both include a small donor tax credit.

U.S. PIRG, the U.S. Public Interest Research Group, is a consumer group that stands up to powerful interests whenever they threaten our health and safety, our financial security, or our right to fully participate in our democratic society.
