MSNBC: "Auctioning Democracy"
Host Chris Jansing and guests Rana Foroohar of Time Magazine, Ben White of Politico, and Richard Lui of MSNBC discuss U.S.PIRG and Demos's "fascinating" new report "Auctioning Democracy: the Rise of Super PACs and the 2012 election" on today's episode of Jansing & Co.
The new analysis breaks down the source of money flooding into our elections through "super PACs", or independent expenditure committees, in the wake of the Supreme Court's disastrous Citizens United decision. In addition to revealing what percentage of super PAC money comes from businesses, secret sources, and elite donors, the report also makes recommendations to fix our democracy for every level of government, from municipal bodies to the White House.
