Hospital Safety Letter to the Editor
Hospital-acquired infections—often the result of inadequate sanitary
practices—pose a deadly risk to patients and drive up the cost of
hospital care. Each year about two million patients contract an
infection after they are admitted to a hospital causing 90,000 deaths.
The good news is that several states have passed laws that require
public disclosure of hospital-acquired infections. You can tell your
state to enforce its disclosure laws, or to pass such a hospital
disclosure law by writing a letter to the editor. We'll collect them
and get them to area papers.
