Steve Blackledge provides policy and strategic guidance for state
PIRGs, primarily focusing on the issues of health care and consumer
protection. Prior to his current position, he spent five years as the
legislative and policy director for CALPIRG, where his work led to new
state-level policy reforms on issues ranging from health care and
prescription drug costs, to Enron-style accounting scams, to protecting
consumers from privacy invasions and identity theft.
Mr.
Blackledge was the first director of New Hampshire PIRG and also worked
for PIRG in Michigan and Illinois PIRG. He has appeared on CSPAN and
CNN, and has been quoted in The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, and
Chicago Tribune, as well as numerous other newspapers and media outlets
in California, New Hampshire, Michigan and Illinois. Mr. Blackledge
began his career with the state PIRGs in 1991.
